Chez Vrony - Lunch with a view in Zermatt
If you are going to Zermatt, I highly recommend having lunch at Chez Vrony - a Michelin recommended restaurant. The views of the Matterhorn are amazing, and if you are lucky enough to score a blue sky day like we were, then you are in for a treat.
You do have to work for your lunch though….and hike down from the Sunnegga funicular, which takes about 20 -30 minutes. But you are in Switzerland and the scenery is stunning. On the way back, you have the choice of a steep, short up-hill climb (retracing your steps), or a slightly longer, but gentle downhill trek back into Zermatt - which is what we did.
The food was delicious, and best described as elevated traditional Swiss cuisine. Best accompanied by a Hugo Spritz or a local wine.
The service was outstanding. We were personally greeted by the owner when we arrived, and he was generally interested in hearing about our travels. He made sure his staff knew we had travelled all the way from Australia, and kept thanking us for making the effort to visit his restaurant. These are the details that make a place special.
Everything is expensive in Switzerland, and while some might say this restaurant is on the higher-priced side, I felt we got good value for money. There aren’t too many places where you get amazing food, great service and in case I forgot to mention…The most spectacular views!!!
Good To Know
You will need to book. It is recommended to book a couple of months in advance.
As I mentioned - you have to be able to hike to the restaurant, and back. In winter, there is a ski run.
